Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday!

If you didn’t know already, tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day.

Since 2002, Diamond Comic Distributors, participating comic book companies and comic book shops all participate in this event to give out free comics.

Despite the name, you can’t get any comic for free. Only comics that have the FCBD banner on them are eligible.

Usually these comics are just an assortment of past storylines or introduction to an already established series.

Recently comic book companies like Marvel and DC Comics have used FCBD as the starting point of one of their company-wide crossover event. Last year’s FCBD saw the start of the “Blackest Night” miniseries with issue # 0.

This year, DC will kick off their “War of the Supermen” event with issue #0 and Marvel will release an “Iron Man/Thor” one-shot in anticipation for Matt Fraction’s run on the current “Thor” title.

Not all comic book shops participate in FCBD, to find out which store near you is participating and for a list of FCBD comics or if you just want to know more information, check out the FCBD site: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/index.asp
